DC-DC Converter Control Unit for Variable Speed Wind Turbine

Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous generator is connected to a diode rectifier, a DC chopper and a load. The control strategy, based on the maximum power point tracking and limited power point tracking is used to improve the system operation. When it is necessary to limit the power injected to the grid, due to system operator demands, a control unit is implemented to switch between two regimes of wind turbine operation and is performed at maximum power and limited power. The inner feed forward current control loop and outer voltage control closed loop are applied to the non-inverting buck-boost converter as the two control loops. The performance of the dynamic models and the control loops is tested under various wind conditions. The results prove the strategy and models reliability.
